Metsä Fibre Bioproduct Mill, Kemi

Quality and Efficiency Key in the Construction of the Kemi Bioproduct Mill

The Metsä Group’s Kemi bioproduct mill, set to be operational in 2023, is the largest investment in the history of Finland’s forest industry. This was also evident at YBT. – “The bioproduct mill has been our largest and most important project in 2022,” says YBT’s CEO Juha Alapuranen. Elements were delivered to a total of ten different buildings for Metsä Fibre, part of the Metsä Group.

Efficiency from Our Own Installation Team

The bioproduct mill was constructed in two and a half years, requiring partners to adhere to tight schedules. YBT’s Ylitornio factory is close to the Kemi project site. Additionally, YBT uniquely has its own truck cranes and installers. This operational model, imported from Sweden, has also been utilized in the construction of the bioproduct mill.

The oxygen plant, the largest part of the project

Metsä Group’s area manager Esa Kadenius has overseen, among other things, the construction of the entirely concrete-structured oxygen plant. It is the largest building supplied by YBT at the bioproduct mill.

– “It is really important to have a competent partner as the element supplier, because in a project like this, the quantities are larger than usual and the schedules must be strictly adhered to,” says Kadenius.
