Veneenveistäjänranta, Oulu

The new residential area of Veneenveistäjänranta in Pateniemi, Oulu, brings a generous dose of the much-needed maritime atmosphere to the city. The waterfront pavilion, beach, marina, and sea views from the apartments make Veneenveistäjänranta a unique area.

YBT delivered the elements for the first residential building in Veneenveistäjänranta, As Oy Fregattisatama, a year ago. Now, next to it, As Oy Oulun Aurinkoranta, made from YBT’s elements, is rising. It comprises 41 apartments of various sizes, from studios to large three-bedroom units.

– “The location of the buildings right by the sea requires well-chosen structural solutions and material selections. For the same reason, getting the frame up quickly and sealing the exterior tightly is more important than usual,” says Ilari Schouwvlieger, CEO of Aalto Asuntorakennus Oy, the developer of Fregattisatama and Aurinkoranta.

He has been involved in many projects with YBT over the years. – “We know the company to be reliable in terms of both delivery schedules and quality

One of the Most Desired Areas in Oulu

The parent company of the builder, Aalto Development, is known for implementing high-quality projects in prestigious locations. Schouwvlieger, who leads the group, strongly believes in the appeal of the new area.

– “Veneenveistäjänranta meets all the criteria that combine high-quality and desirable neighborhoods. We are confident that once completed, Veneenveistäjänranta will be one of the most sought-after residential areas in Oulu.”

“More Architectural Quality”

Schouwvlieger praises the speeding up of zoning processes in Finnish cities but calls for more architectural quality in the plans.

– “As long as the zoning decisions in cities are ultimately made by committees composed of politicians, this issue will not change. The problem is particularly evident in the Helsinki metropolitan area, where plans consistently become mediocre compromises.”
