YBT started the production of low-carbon precast concrete elements

YBT has launched a new product line Best of Concrete - Low Carbon. With this new product line, YBT is starting the production of low-carbon precast concrete elements. The launch of the low-carbon product line enables YBT to offer its customers low-carbon concrete construction solutions for wall, frame, and slab products.

The Best of Concrete - Low Carbon product line enables YBT to manufacture more sustainable and environmentally friendly products. At the core of the new product line’s production is a revised concrete recipe. The new concrete recipe is BY low-carbon classified and certified by Kiwa Inspecta Certification Ltd. The BY low-carbon classification is a newly published classification by the Finnish Concrete Association, serving as the basis for low-carbon concrete elements manufactured in Finland.

YBT’s Technical Director Reijo Alapuranen states that significant efforts have been made in the development of the new product line to ensure resource-efficient concrete production and environmentally friendly choices throughout the product manufacturing chain.

The start of low-carbon precast concrete element production is part of YBT’s green transition plan.

The launch of the low-carbon product line is one part of YBT’s extensive environmental efforts. YBT has long focused on the responsibility of its products, and in recent years, has worked particularly on minimizing the environmental impacts of its operations.

The installation of the first solar panels at YBT’s Ylitornio plant in the summer of 2022.

To minimize the impacts of its operations, YBT has invested in and adopted new technologies and processes that enable more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly production.

– “We started measuring the overall carbon footprint of our operations in 2021 and have successfully reduced our emissions systematically each year. With the new low-carbon product line, we can significantly reduce the emissions of our products and project-specific element deliveries,” says YBT’s CEO Juha Alapuranen.
